Today’s Pick: Must-reads for entrepreneurs and business managers

For the “read” file

There are five sources that I read regularly; for entrepreneurs and business managers alike they provide perspectives on a range of topics from current global events to understanding the intricacies of markets, to learning more about the foundational social sciences that contribute to business like sociology, psychology and economics.

This content from the world’s leading minds comes to you free of charge.

  • Strategy + Business - The online version of this magazine (not a journal as it’s not peer reviewed, not unlike Harvard Business Review) is published by top tier management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. The content mainly comes from the magazine editors and subject matter experts that work for the firm. Note: once you register to use the site, you can get a series of articles as they are released as well as most of the content from the print magazine. http://www.strategy-business.com/
  • Knowledge @ Wharton – Excellent content from a wide range professors at the world’s #1 ranked business school. Subject matter ranges from finance, operations to management. Formats range from podcasts and interviews to summaries of the latest big ideas and research. Note: in order for content to be accessed you must register for the site; I would also suggest that you register for email updates. http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/
  • Rotman Magazine - Blazing trails in the world of business education, this magazine from local rising star, the Rotman School of Management, is published three times per year. You can subscribe if you want the smartly designed print version, or simply download the latest issue (as well as all back issues) in PDF format free of charge. http://www.rotman.utoronto.ca/news/magazine.htm
  • The Boston Consulting Group – While the email bulletins from this premier management consulting firm are less frequent than others in this list, the content is worth waiting for. From larger Focus articles, Opportunities, or their classic Perspectives. Note: the best way to access this content is to register for email updates for targeted industries or business areas. http://www.bcg.com/subscribe/subscribe_create_account.jsp
  • McKinsey Quarterly – Vast content from this premier consulting firm is made available in a range of formats from podcasts to interviews with CEOs and political leaders and everywhere in between. Note: the best way to access this content is to register for email updates for targeted industries or business areas. http://www.mckinseyquarterly.com/home.aspx
